Diving:

This package includes fourteen (14) dives over 7 diving days.

We spend the first 4 days of our holiday in South Africa, specifically the area around Aliwal Shoal. Located just 5 KM from our launch point of Umkomaas, Aliwal Shoal has a well developed reputation as one of the best shark diving spots on the planet. While the main focus is to dive with the many shark species found on the Aliwal Shoal including Tiger Sharks, Oceanic Blacktip Sharks, Ragged Tooth Sharks, Dusky Sharks, Guitar Sharks, Bull Sharks, Hammerhead Sharks and more, Aliwal Shoal is also home to a huge variety of other marine life including whales, dolphin, turtles, manta rays, devil rays, eagle rays, ribbontail rays, eels, game fish, reef fish and more. The wrecks of the MV Produce [1974] & the Nebo [1884] are great wreck dives at the Aliwal Shoal in South Africa with loads of marine life.

Day 5 brings with it an over land transfer by 4 x 4 vehicles into Mozambique, which will be our base for the next 4 days of diving.

Our diving in Mozambique takes place on the reefs between Ponta Do Ouro, Ponta Malongane & Ponta Mamoli which offers some more shark & reef diving. The dive sites range between 10- meters and 35-meters and are home to a huge variety of other marine life including many shark species, dolphin, turtles, manta rays, devil rays, eagle rays, ribbontail rays, moray eels, game fish, reef fish & more.

At the end of the trip, we will cross back into South Africa by land to catch our flights home.

Depending on the conditions each day, it is possible to do additional dives, and settle directly at the dive centre for the same.

Required certification level:
SSI Advanced Adventurer \ PADI Advanced Open Water diver. Due to the challenging nature of some of the dive sites, a minimum of 20 dives experience is recommended.

For the following reasons, we will not be able to conduct any courses during this trip unfortunately.

Location:

For the first time ever, Outbound visits two countries as part of the same dive trip. Our main aim for this trip is to spot as many of the different species of large sharks that roam this area. Some of the highlight species on our list include Ragged Tooth sharks, Bull sharks, Tiger Sharks, Hammerheads, Grey reef, silvertip and blacktip sharks. In addition to this, the two locations offer a chance to see sting rays, large pelagics such as Sailfish and Marlin, as well as plentiful reef life.

The trip has been timed for March because this time of year has slightly warmer conditions that are conducive for the summer sharks such as hammereads, tigersharks and bull sharks.

Accommodation:

Your stay will be at the sister resorts of the dive centre in South Africa and Mozambique.

In SA, all rooms are ocean facing with ensuite facilities, free WIFI and satellite TV, private balconies, and can be configured as either doubles or twins. On the property there is a common chill out area, and a swimming pool to laze around in, just in case the idea of spending time by the beach does not appeal. 😉

Please mail if you would prefer single occupancy, or have any other special requests.

In Mozambique, all rooms are air conditioned, and have en-suite facilities. The resort has wifi, two swimming pools, a chill out area, access to the beach directly from the lodge.

Meals: This package includes breakfast on all days of our stay. For lunch, the in house restaurant serves a range of salads, sandwiches, burgers and other hearty mid day meals, for which a tab will be maintained and can be paid for at check out. The restaurant can be paid in ZAR, USD, and Euro.

For dinner, guests have the option of relaxing by a typical South African Braai and enjoying a cold one while swapping dive stories, or we can explore the other eating options in and around town. The resort will provide us transport if needed.

Note: If you have any specific dietary requirement please let us know well in advance, so that we can request the resort to prepare accordingly.
