4th to 10th September, 2018
The duration of this trip will be 7D\6N running from Sunday to Saturday. Check in to our hotel is on the 4th of March. Diving starts on the 5th and we do 2 dives every day till (including) the 9th. Everyone checks out the 10th to begin the journey back home.
This trip is designed to cover your diving, stay for the duration of the trip, breakfast on all days, and, a very special & unique Sri Lankan meal at the house of a Colombo native.
Leading this group will be none other than Vinnie, who cut his teeth doing some of the earliest technical dives in the industry off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the Americas, and who will now be on hand to provide you as much info as you can handle about wrecks, Nitrox, and occasionally steal your chocolate mousse. That last one is not company sanctioned by the way, but we have learnt not to object. 😛
We will be doing two ( 2 ) dives every morning and all will be done off of a boat.
With over 10 wrecks Colombo offers world-class wreck diving in close proximity to the international airport and a major city. Explore the immense cargo holds of intact freighters such as the Pecheur Breton (Cargo Wreck) and the Medhufaru, play with the friendly lionfish at the Nilgiri Tug or discover history on WWI wrecks such as the SS Perseus. Most wrecks are in the 20- 30m depth range and easy to access being less than 30 minutes boat ride from our base.
But Colombo diving is not limited to wrecks. Wide- angle enthusiasts can explore current swept outer reefs with soft coral and massive gorgonian sea fans while macro photographers can search for nudibranchs, crabs, shrimps, electric rays, pipefish, sea moths and other critters on the rocky reefs. Our wrecks also teem with marine life, from large schools of snappers and fusiliers to visiting pelagics such as dogtooth tuna, wahoo and eagle rays. For novice divers, Colombo offers a challenging but rewarding environment to advance your training by taking the Advanced Open Water course or specialty courses like Nitrox or Deep Diver with training dives possible on world-class wreck sites.
One good add-on to consider : Divers who already have a Nitrox certification can super size their package by choosing to do all their dives on Nitrox, or you can do the certification on this trip and then do all your dives on Nitrox.
Mail firstname.lastname@example.org for more course options and pricing.
All dives are guided, and group sizes adjusted for size and the experience level of the divers. Each day, the dive team will decide on the best options for the day and our intent is to dive a wide variety of locations so that you see as much as you can in a week. The use of equipment is included in this package.
Our usual daily diving schedule will be as follows:
7.30 AM: Day start, breakfast
8 AM: Leave for Dive 1
10 AM: Surface interval on boat\dive shop (Planned on a day to day basis) 11 AM: Leave for Dive 2
12.30 PM: Dive day ends
Suitable for: Certified divers of all levels. Open to non-diving partners also
Colombo! Specifically, Mt. Lavinia, which is just a little over 13 KM outside the city. It is a little known aspect of Colombo that there is some pretty special diving so close to the city, and Mt. Lavinia, which is the launching point for our dives, offers the perfect combination of being close to the bustling capital and the chilled out beach vibe that Sri Lanka is so famous for.
This time around we have chosen a resort that is right by the Mt. Lavinia beach. The property has rooms with a view, a swimming pool, and a chill out area with pool tables for unwinding post dive day. All accommodation is arranged on either a twin\double sharing basis. All rooms are air conditioned, and come with en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold showers. There is also wi-fi available on the premises, and an open air area where guests can sit out and relax.
For meals we feel like guests will be best off exploring the local options instead of being restricted to all their meals in one place. With such a wide range of establishments to choose from, we felt it would be more fun to be able to eat around and sample all the local delights or international favorites that are on offer. Either way, there are choices to suit all budgets.
Also included, is one private dinner at the home of Mrs. Nafeesa Palandy, and is not to be missed. This is a bit of coup for us, as Mrs. Palandy has impeccable pedigree as a Sri Lankan cook, and was even sought after by Anthony Bourdain when he visited the island to do a show on the local cuisine.
Please mail if you have any specific dietary requirements so that we can inform our dinner hostess accordingly.
Transfers: Transfers are not included as part of this package so that everyone has to flexibility to choose a flight schedule that suits them best.
However, we can recommend the airport taxi service to be quite reliable and fairly priced, and guests can also arrange their pick up from the airport via the very easy to use Kangaroo cabs website, http://www.2588588.com/
Visas: All guests are advised to purchase a visa prior to entering the country. This can be done via http://www.eta.gov.lk/slvisa and is a painless process.
You can also purchase a visa on arrival at Colombo airport, but this can take time depending on the arrivals for that day and will add to the time it takes to clear immigration and customs.
